Below is a list of websites that offer information, guidance and support for children and young people who self harm or are experiencing suicidal thoughts as well as their friends and family.

If you are concerned about your mental health or the mental health or wellbeing of your child, you can contact your GP to request support, advice, and a referral on if appropriate. You can also speak to your child’s school and request a referral to Early Help (sometimes called MAST in Sheffield), who provide a range of supportive services to children and families.

There are also some voluntary organisations in Sheffield who provide support in relation to specific areas of need. Based on recommendations from young people and families we have worked with, we can suggest contacting any of the following if they are relevant to your situation:

Home – Kooth – online talking and support app ran by trained advisors

Golddigger Trust– groups and 1:1 support aimed at increasing self esteem

SAYiT (including Fruitbowl) – LGBTQ+ youth groups and individual support

Sheffield Young Carers – support for young people who have a caring role within their family

Cavendish Cancer Care – short-term therapy for children and young people affected by cancer, including bereavement

ACCT Sheffield – support for autistic children and young people and their families 

Zest Youth Services– youth groups and peer mentoring based in the Upperthorpe area of Sheffield

Sheffield Domestic Abuse Forum provides information about services available to people affected by past or current domestic abuse, including emotional and verbal abuse. This includes links to Haven services for children and young people living with a safe parent to help them process their experiences together
